RALPH LaVERNE HUGHES Death Recorded

Ralph LaVerne Hughes, a member of the Lorimor community and a resident of Madison County for 35 years, died Friday, August 29, 1975 at his home in Monroe Township. He was 79 years of age.

Mr. Hughes was born March 21, 1896 in Richland Township of Adair County, Iowa, the son of Harry H. Hughes and Myrtie Hanson. His marriage to Lila Ann Mayes took place December 23, 1922 in Creston.

A farmer during his active life, Mr. Hughes was a veteran of World War I and past commander of the Fred M. Davis Legion Post in Lorimor. He was also a member of the Winterset WWI Barracks and VFW Post 8882 in Afton.

Surviving Mr. Hughes in his wife, Lila Hughes, three sons, Keith and Larry of rural Winterset and Ronald of Des Moines, 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Also surviving is a brother, Roy Hughes and a sister, Mrs. Grace Dwyer, both of Bridgewater.

Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents and one younger brother.

Funeral services for Ralph LaVerne Hughes were conducted Tuesday, September 2, 1975 at 10:00 a.m. from Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. The Rev. Willis Grant of Macksburg officiated.
