FUNERAL MONDAY FOR JOHN GAMBLE

Life-Time County Resident Dies At Age Of 87 Years

Funeral services for John Lowman Gamble, a life-long resident of Madison county, were held this Monday afternoon, July 20, from the First Methodist church in Winterset.

Mr. Gamble died July 17 at the home of Mrs. Rebecca Francis in Winterset, where he was being cared for. He was 87 years, 11 months and 28 days of age.

The son of John and Hattie Eyerly Gamble, he was born in this county on July 19, 1876. He was married to Ruth Anna Young on Sept 7, 1897 at the home of the bride's parents near St. Charles. Mrs. Gamble died in 1961, after the couple had observed their 64th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Gamble spent most of his active life as a farmer.

Surviving are three sons; Russell O. and Harold of Carlisle, and Cleo of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. George Jackson and Mrs. Sam Lathrum both of Winterset; 35 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one brother, Will Gamble of Payola, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother and two sisters.

Officiating at the funeral services Monday were the Rev. Walter A. Samp and the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial was made in the Wight cemetery in Madison county.
