Virgil Fred Wickett, son of William and Alberta Wickett was born Dec. 14, 1907 at New Virginia, and died June 5, 1986, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 78 years.
He attended New Virginia schools and graduated from New Virginia High School in 1927.
Virgil was united in marriage June 14, 1928 to Lorraine Luke at Madrid, and two sons were born to this union. He was a lifetime resident of the New Virginia Area. They lived on a farm east of New Virginia until he retired from farming in 1977 and moved to town. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of New Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife; two grandchildren, Angela Skidmore and Gary Wickett; a brother, Walter Wickett of Indianola; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Wickett were held Saturday, June 7, from the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, with Pastors Charles Ellis and Roger Hemmings officiating. Burial was in New Virginia Cemetery.
