FUNERAL AT EARLHAM FOR J. W. FREDERICK

Funeral services for John William Frederick, a well-known resident of southern Madison township, were held Sunday, July 31 from the Earlham Church of Christ.

Mr. Frederick died July 28 at his farm home about four miles south of Earlham. He was 78 years of age.

A son of John and Elizabeth Frederick, he was born in Des Moines on July 25, 1881. His early boyhood was spent on a farm near Ankeny. Later, the family moved to the Cumming neighborhood.

In 1910 he went to DeSoto where he farmed with his father until his marriage to Lela Ellston on Feb. 24, 1914. They began married life on the farm near Earlham which was to be their home the entire 46 years of their marriage.

Mr. Frederick was a member of the Christian church.

Survivors include his wife, two children, Wilbur Frederick and Esther Grimes, both of Earlham; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Roy of Des Moines; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Glynn, Mrs. Maud Sweigart and Mrs. Harold Willis, all of Des Moines.

Officiating at the funeral was the Rev. John Casey. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery at DeSoto.

Services Held For John W. Frederick

Funeral services were held for John Frederick at the Earlham Church of Christ on Sunday, July 31. Rev. John Casey was in charge. Organist was Mrs. Leonard Welch. Wm. F. Price, accompanied by Mrs. Earl Schalkle was soloist.

Casket bearers were Virgil Ackerman, Dale Smith, Harold Frey, Jack Duff, Harold Crawford and John Henkle. Honorary casket bearers were Earl Schalkle, Raymond Smith, Harry Frey, Albin Olson, Wm. Ackerman and Walter Eisele.

Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery at De Soto.

John William Frederick, the son of John and Elizabeth Frederick was born in Des Moines, Iowa July 25, 1881 and passed quietly away in his home as he slept Thursday, July 28, at the age of 78 years, and 3 days.

His early boyhood days were spent near Ankeny where his father was engaged in farming. Later they moved to the Cummings neighborhood where he grew to manhood. In 1910, he came to De Soto where he farmed with his father until his marriage to Lela Ellston February 24, 1914. They began their married life on the farm near Earlham where they have spent the entire 46 years of their marriage among most loyal and loved neighbors and friends.

He was baptized in the Christian faith in 1912 and remained a loyal worker in his faith until ill health kept him from active service.

To this marriage two children were born: Wilbur E. Frederick and Esther Grimes, both of Earlham.

Besides these two devoted children, he leaves eleven grandchildren who loved him dearly, one brother Roy Frederick and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Glynn, Mrs. Maud Sweigart and Mrs. Harold Willis, all of Des Moines, besides many other relatives and a host of loyal friends.
