DICK WHITING, Winterset

Richard “Dick” Blount Whiting, 76, of Winterset died Feb. 28, 2005, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Private services were held Tuesday, March 1, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. The family has made available a register book for friends to sign from 1–6 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Dick Whiting was born July 22, 1928, in Des Moines to Southard Provost and Florence Mae (Blount) Whiting. He attended Drake University where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity. Dick’s business career included both ownership and positions in publishing and advertising.

He is survived by four daughters, Sara Lausch and Patti Battani, both of Kansas City, Mo., Stephanie Aldrich of Winterset and Jody King of Lorimor; four sons, Tacy Whiting of Des Moines, Matthew Whiting of Lafayette, La., Mark Whiting of Lenexa, Kan., and Eric Whiting of Winterset; and 17 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
