Services for Fred Fox, 77, Winterset, who died Friday, July 27 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, were held on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. George Neal officiating. Burial was at the Greenfield Cemetery.
Born July 1, 1907 at Adair County, he was the son of Elijah and Mary Ellen Fox. He was a lifetime resident of Iowa and was employed by the Madison County Auction for the past 23 years. He formerly was active in several saddle clubs and was the president of the Greenfield Saddle Club at the time of his death.
According to his family, Fred in 1941, moved his family in a horse-drawn carriage from Adair County to the Madison County farm where he was residing. He increased the number of his horses until he became Iowa's oldest and largest spotted horse breeder, the family said.
Survivors include a sister, Kate Burrell of Fontanelle; sons, Freddie Lynn and wife June of Van Wert, and George and wife, Juanita of Des Moines; a daughter, Georgia and husband Don Campbell of Cumming; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marie Ella Gillespie and four infant sons.

Page 23Winterset, Ia. - Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield for Fred Fox Sr., 77, of Winterset, who died of a heart ailment Friday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Mr. Fox was a Madison County resident most of his life and was a farmer and horse breeder. He was a charter member and former president of Morocco Spotted Horse Association.
Survivors include two sons, Freddie Lynn of Van Wert and George of Des Moines; a daughter, Georgia Campbell of Cumming; a sister, Kate Burrell of Fontanelle; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
