Injuries Fatal To MRS. E. R. LEINARD

Winterset Woman Active in Religious, Civic Affairs of Community

Injuries sustained in an automobile accident April 17, proved fatal to Mrs. E. R. Leinard last Wednesday, her death occurring at the Winterset hospital.

Mrs. Leinard received a fatal brain concussion when she was hurled to the pavement upon jumping from an automobile that had suddenly caught fire on the highway. At the time, she was returning home from Des Moines with a paty of friends.

Mrs. Leinard was the former Rose A. Husted. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Husted, and was born near Peru on June 13, 1880. She spent her early life in Ohio township, moving to Winterset in 1899 with her parents. Here she was married to Ernest R. Leinard on April 25, 1900.

Mrs. Leinard held a prominent part in the religious and civic affairs of Winterset, being active up until the time of her death. She had been a member of the Methodist church since the age of 10 years. She was an active member of the Women's Relief corps, holding the offices of national aid and was chairman of the executive committee for the state of Iowa and conductor of the local chapter. She had been active in the Ladies' auxiliary of the Iowa Rural Letter Carriers' association and twice had represented that organization in their national convention. She was also president of that organization for the sixth district for two years. Other organizations in whose work she took a leading part were the PTA of which she was president, one year for South ward, the Winterset Garden club, and the Child Welfare club, of which she was president.

She is survived by her husband and by four children, Mrs. Vesta Reed of Peru, Thomas Leinard of Fontanelle, Mrs. Inez Foster of Los Angeles, California, and Della Mae Leinard, at home. There are also four brothers, and one sister, Charles Husted of Winterset, Elvin Husted of St. Charles, Ora Husted of Truro, Mrs. Cora Belle Brown of Norwalk, and Curtis Husted of Peru, in addition to 10 grandchildren.

Funeral rites were held last Friday from the Methodist church in Winterset, conducted by her pastor, the Rev. M. R. Talley. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

The funeral was one of the largest in local history. A ritual was presented by the Woman's Relief corps, and Mrs. Harriett McCullough of Des Moines paid tribute to the deceased on behalf of the corps, as did Mrs. W. B. Dorrell on behalf of the Rural Letter Carriers' association. Members of the Child Welfare club dropped flowers on the casket as they filed past.
