Earlham Echo - March 1970

Claire Gipple, local barber for many years, died Tuesday at the Dexter hospital.

Mr. Gipple had been very ill the past week with the flu and other complications. He was taken to the hospital Monday forenoon where he died about 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at the Earlham United Methodist church Thursday, March 12, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Anita.

Earlham business places will be closed from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. during the services for Mr. Gipple.

Obituary

Claire Delmar Gipple, son of Charles Oliver and Ila Gipple, was born December 31, 1900 north of Anita, and passed away at the Dexter hospital in Dexter on March 10, 1970.

He was married to Arlene Hawk on August 29, 1923. She preceded him in death on May 9, 1966.

Their early married life was spent on the farm, then he went into the barbering profession which he continued until his death.

He was a member of the Earlham United Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a brother, Verle.

Left to mourn his passing are his daughter Helen and her husband Don Nystrom, and two granddaughters, Carol and Janet of Des Moines; two brothers Charles and Kenneth Gipple of Atlantic; four sisters, Mattie Richter of Sac City, Irene Karns and Cleo Steele of Anita, and Ethel Pletcher of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Funeral serives were held on Thursday, March 12, at 1:00 p.m. in the United Methodist church at Earlham with Rev. Ward Young in charge. Organ music was provided by Dolores Summy. The church floral committee cared for the flowers.

Casket bearers were L. O. Patten, H. Claude Peer, Robert Branam, Lyman Oaks, Lyle Summy and Earl Schalkle. Interment was in the Anita cemetery.
