Leta Ford Dies

Lela Phillips Ford, 75, of Ottumwa, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 1986, at St. Mary's Hospital in Galesburg, Ill. She was a former resident of Creston.

She was born Jan. 13, 1911 in Union County, the daughter of Arthur and Floy (Hayden) Huffman. On Oct. 14, 1964, she married Bernard Ford in Lancaster, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1977.

She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Thompson of Abingdon, Ill.; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Earl Huffman of Creston; and a sister, Hazel Hoyt, of Yucca Valley, Calif.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa, with Rev. William H. Payne officiating.

Graveside services and burial were held that afternoon at the Pleasant View Cemetery, north of Macksburg.

A memorial has been established to the Eagles Auxiliary in Ottumwa.

Leta Ford, 75, Ottumwa, died Thursday, Aug. 28 at St. Marys Hospital in Galesburg, Ill.

She was born Jan. 13, 1911 in Creston to Arthur and Floy Hayden Huffman. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #114 Auxiliary, Ottumwa, and was elected Woman of the Year for 1986 at the June convention in Omaha, Neb.

She married John G. Phillips in March 1927. They resided in St. Charles and in Madison County until 1960, then in Creston. He preceded her in death.

She married B. M. Ford in October, 1964. They resided in Ottumwa. He died in February 1977.

She if survived by one daughter, Gloria Thompson of Abingdon, Ill.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Earl of Creston; and one sister, Hazel Hoyt of Yucca Valley, Calif.

She was preceded in death also by an infant daughter, one sister and a twin sister.

Burial was Aug. 30, at Pleasant View Cemetery north of Macksburg.
