Bertha Wilkinson, 97, of Mitchellville, died of a heart ailment Sunday, Aug. 17, 1986, at Mercy Hospital. Funeral services were held at the Mitchellville Congretational Church with burial in the Mitchellville Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilkinson was the daughter of Thomas J. and Catherine Larrison and was born June 7, 1889 at Dexter. She was a graduate of Mitchellville High School and Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, S.D. She had taught in the public school at Trip, S.D., and Drake, N.D.
On Dec. 25, 1913, she was united in marriage to John Wesley Wilkinson. They farmed for 40 years at Mitchellville and Winterset. They lived a half mile east of Winterset from 1932 to 1952. In 1952, they retired and returned to Mitchellville. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1963.
She was honored in June, 1983, as one of the alumni of Mitchellville High School who had graduated 75 years previously. She was a member of the Congregational Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by two children, Ralph Wilkinson, of Des Moines, and Orrell Cooper of Garden Grove, Ca.; five grandchildren, Mrs. Joan Gulling of Liburn, Ga., Mrs. Judi Nurse of Fallbrook, Ca.; Donald Wilkinson of Ocala, Fla.; Mrs. Louise Garner of Neptune Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Carol Lewis of Virginia Beach, Va.; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968, and one great-grandchild.
