John Darwin "Bus" Holtmyer, 83, died of a respiratory ailment Oct. 20, 2002, at Winterset Care Center South.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Winterset Cemetery.

Bus Holtmyer was born July 7, 1919, in Montgomery County to Herbert Everett and Vera Blanche(Chickering) Holtmyer. On June 1, 1939, he married Wilma Anna Lubben. Following her death, he later married Anna L. Brunsmann on June 29, 1985, in Earlham. Bus and his father had operated an implement and car sales business in Greenfield. They later owned and operated a feed business, C & H Supply Inc., in Madison County. He also farmed and worked with Agritronics selling feed. He had been a resident of Madison County for 58 years, coming from Montgomery County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset and the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of America, Inc. (former director).

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife (Wilma Lubben Holtmyer), a foster son, a stepson, a sister, and a great-granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Ann L., of Earlham; two sons, Darwin Holtmyer (wife Cyrena) of Macksburg and Lee Holtmyer (wife Martha) of Madrid; a daughter, Judy Bullis of Madrid; a foster daughter-in-law, Pat Ashley of Creston; two stepsons, Tim Smith (wife Gail) of Urbandale and Rod Smith (wife Beth) of Bowling Green, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Tammy Meyer (husband Major Russell Meyer) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Angie Henry (husband Rory) of Winterset; two brothers, Maurice Holtmyer of Greenfield and Charles Holtmyer (wife Dorothy) of Winterset; 15 grandchildren; three foster grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
