2002Fred Radakovich, 90, of Pittsfield, Mass., died Aug. 8, 2002, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pittsfield with the Rev. Dr. Peter D. Boehringer and Carl Kahrs Towley officiating. Burial was at Naperville Cemetery in Naperville, Ill.
Fred Radakovich was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Pueblo, Colo., to Trivun "Mike" and Pera "Pauline" (Rabarich) Radakovich. He had resided in Earlham, graduating from Earlham High School in 1930. He also was a 1936 graduate of Iowa State University in Ames with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. On July 18, 1937, he married Charlotte Stotler in Hudson, Ill. He was an Army veteran of World War II, earning the Legion of Merit award. He had resided in Naperville, Ill., for 36 years and later at the Devonshire assisted living community in Lisle, Ill., before moving to Pittsfield, Mass. Fred retired as a senior staff engineer in 1973 following 27 years with the Western Electric Company of Cicero, Ill. Prior to his military service, he worked for U.S. Steel. While in Naperville, he was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Pittsfield; a daughter, Sharyl Swarbrick of Pittsfield; two brothers, George Radakovich of Earlham and Nick Radakovich of Indianola; four sisters, Helen Riser of Winterset, Dorothy Davis of San Jose, Calif., Sophie Ross of Lodi, Calif., and Anna Breen of Cottage Grove, Ore.; a son-in-law, John Swarbrick; a daughter-in-law, Judy Radakovich; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
