Page 1RUSSELL CROW DIES OF INJURIES
Victim of Toboggan Accident of January 19th, Died Saturday Night
Russell Crow, who received critical injuries in the toboggan accident, on Monday night, January 19th, died Saturday night, January 24th, about nine o’clock, at the Winterset hospital. He was the second victim of the accident, Raymond Braden, having been killed instantly. A group of boys had been riding on a toboggan, which was pulled by a car driven by Stanley Croft. They came on to Court Avenue, from the north, on East Fourth avenue, and the car turned west, but the sleds went out into the middle of the street, in front of an approaching car driven by James Breeding. He applied the brakes, but the boys were only a few feet away, and he hit the second sled. The Crow boy, who was 15 years of age, had concussion of the brain, and other complications. He was taken to the Winterset hospital, and given every care, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died Saturday night.
The youth was a son of Nona and Frank Crow, and was born in Jackson township, June 8, 1915. His father died when he was two years of age, and the family moved to Dexter. His mother was married to Fred Eyerly in 1923. In 1926, they moved to Winterset, and resided here for eighteen months, after which they returned to the farm west of Winterset. Since then the boy has continued to attend the Winterset schools, and he was a member of the sophomore class. The members of the class attended the funeral in a group.
The Rev. A. P. Keast, assisted by the Rev. C. M. Rowe of the Webster church, and Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star and Worthington churches, conducted the funeral services, Tuesday afternoon, January 26th, at 2 o’clock, at the Methodist church, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
Russell leaves besides his mother, and step-father, one sister, Mable, and two brothers, Wade and Eugene, and five step-brothers, Frank, Wilbur, Wyman, Donald, and Gene Eyerly.

Russell Frank, son of Nona and Frank Crow, was born in Jackson township, Madison county, Iowa, June 8, 1915.
His father died when he was two years old and the family moved to Dexter where Russell started to school. At the end of his first year they returned to the farm where his mother was married to Fred Eyerly in 1923. Three years later they moved to Winterset. Russell entered the Winterset schools and has attended here for the past four years, though the family returned to the farm after 18 months in Winterset.
This year he was boarding himself, during the school week in the home of Raymond Hall. This was his sophomore year in the Winterset high school and with his quiet friendliness, Russell had won the affection of his teachers and schoolmates.
He attended the Methodist Sunday school while living in Winterset and later became a member of the Webster Sunday school.
He was a believer in the Christian life and had a fine boyish faith in Christ and the Bible.
He was just at the beginning of a strong young manhood and was in the midst of boyish sport when struck by an automobile on the evening of January 19th. This accident caused the instant death of Raymond Braden and injury to another boy. He lived 5 days after the accident and was a wonderfully patient sufferer. When conscious he tried so hard to encourage those who watched by his bedside – but in spite of every care that was given him and the many prayers of loved ones, God saw best to take him home, and his life here ended January 24, 1931, at the age of 15 years.
He leaves besides his mother and stepfather, one sister, Mable and two brothers, Wade and Eugene, five stepbrothers, Frank, Wilbur, Wyman, Donald and Gene Eyerly – and many other relatives and many friends.
Rev. A. P. Keast, assisted by Rev. C. M. Rowe of the Webster church, conducted the service in church, and Rev. A. R. Weed of West Star and Worthington charge, conducted the services in the Winterset M. E. church Monday afternoon, January 26, and the burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
