Page 1Mrs. Eliza A. Beard Dies
Mrs. Eliza Beard, who had been critically ill, since she suffered a paralytic stroke ten days ago, died on Tuesday, January 13th, at her home in the northeast part of Winterset. Mrs. Beard was 67 years of age.
The Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ conducted her funeral services at the church, Wednesday afternoon, January 14th, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
Mrs. Beard, who was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Miller, was born in Winterset. Here she was married to William Beard in 1879, and they were the parents of nine children, seven of whom survive the mother. These are John Beard of Webster township, Mrs. Minnie Bailey of Kansas City, William of Truro, Mrs. Pearl Keith of Jefferson, Mrs. Ruth Pace and Clyde of Winterset, and Frank of Kansas City.
For many years the couple lived on a farm in Webster township, but in 1919 they moved to Winterset. Mr. Beard died in 1922. Mrs. Beard continued to live here, but several months ago, when her health became poor her daughter, Mrs. Bryon Pace and family moved in, to assist with her care.

Eliza Ann, daughter of William and Louisa Roby Miller was born in Winterset, Iowa, March 31st, 1863. Her childhood was spent in Winterset where she attended the Winterset schools.
She was married to William Beard in 1879. To this marriage 9 children were born. One daughter, Ann died in 1904 at the age of 15 years, and another daughter, Bertha died one year later at the age of 21. The other children are John of Webster township, Madison county; Mrs. Minnie Bailey, of Kansas City; William, of Truro, Iowa; Mrs. Pearl Keith of Jefferson, Iowa; Mrs. Ruth Pace, of Winterset; Frank of Kansas City; and Clyde of Winterset.
After their marriage they moved to their farm in Webster township where they continued to live until they moved to Winterset eleven years ago, where Mr. Beard passed away in 1922, and since then Mrs. Beard has continued to live in Winterset.
She united with the Oak Grove Evangelical church while living in Webster township, and later attended the Maple Grove church.
She has not been well in the past few months and her daughter and family, Mrs. Bryon Pace, moved into the home to help care for her. She suffered a stroke of paralysis ten days before her death, which occurred on January 13th, 1931, at the age of 67 years.
She leaves beside her children, who were all at her bedside in her last days, 19 grandchildren and other relatives, and many friends.
Rev. H. O. Olmstead conducted the funeral services in the Church of Christ Wednesday.
