VELMA LEONA WILLIAMS, Clio, Iowa

Velma Leona Williams, the daughter of Versa and Leonard Hammand was born on July 23, 1908 at Peru, and died at her home in Clio on April 5, 1984 at the age of 75 years.

Velma received her high school education in Truro, and also attended Des Moines Business College for one year. She was united in marriage to Bert Williams on March 11, 1934. For some eighteen years Velma served as bookeeper of Sargeant's Rock Quarries.

She was a member of the Clio Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leo Hammand, and two grandsons, Gary and Jerald. She is survived by her husband of Clio; three daughters, Connie Howell of Clio, Bonnie Wren of Corydon, and Judy Wells of Orange Vale, California; a son, Leonard Williams of Humeston; two step children, nineteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Also three sisters, Esther Brown of Chariton, Louise Showers of St. Charles, and Reba Thompson of Mitchellville.

Services were held on Saturday, April 7, 1984, at 10:30 a.m. from the Clio Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Fulks, officiating. Interment was in the Clio Cemetery.
