OPAL MAE WILLIAMS, St. Charles

A memorial service for Opal Mae Williams, 85, St. Charles, who died Jan. 19, 1985 at the Madison County Hospital, was held at the First Christian Church in Des Moines on Jan. 22. The body was cremated.

Mrs. Williams, a widow, had been in custodial care for 10 years at Madrid but lived the last seven months with her nephew, Thomas Dan Nelson in St. Charles.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Wilma Jean Crull of Iowa City and three other nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew Nelson and Myrtle Dilts; her husband, William H. Williams; and three brothers, Carl, Paul and Oscar Elmo Nelson.

She was born in Clearfield, Iowa in 1899, attending high school and went into Christian ministry (music) until meeing and marrying her husband in 1930. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Des Moines, and was formerly employed with the Iowa State Historical Society of Des Moines.
