Elmer C. Erickson, Winterset

Elmer C. Erickson, 83, of Winterset died of cancer Aug. 19, 2000, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Steve Koch officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset where the family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery with military honors performed by V.F.W. Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset.

Elmer Erickson was born Oct. 15, 1916, in Sioux City to Oscar and Elina (Hildahl) Erickson. His marriage to Lena Schmadeke took place May 20, 1945 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sumner. Elmer moved to Winterset in 1961, where he owned and operated a Coast to Coast Hardware Store for 17 years. Prior to moving to Winterset, he owned a grocery store in McIntire and also worked in food distributing in Cedar Rapids. He retired in 1979. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He received the Pearl Harbor Commemorative Medal in 1991. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, VFW Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, all of Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jane Wiggins (husband Steve) of Winterset; a sister, Ardys Forsman (husband Herb) of Sumner; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
