Charles A. Barrus, life-long resident of Winterset, died at the Memorial hospital Wednesday, July 16, 1952, after an extended period of failing health. He was 71 years of age.
Mr. Barrus was born in Winterset Feb. 24, 1881, a son of Daniel and Maria Barrus. In 1905, he was married to Daisy M. Clopton. Their son, now Dale Barrus of Spencer, was born in 1909, and on July 4, 1909, the wife and mother died.
Mr. Barrus was married to Hazel M. Rees on Feb. 12, 1912. They were the parents of eight children, all of whom survive. They are: Gene A. Barrus of Cody, Wyo., Mrs. Ruth Heimke of Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Mary Anne Bond of Earlham, Mrs. Dorothy Allgeyer of Winterset, Mrs. Marjorie Warren of Des Moines, Charles Barrus of Cody, Wyo., Mrs. Edna O'Farrell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Betty Lou Mark of Menlo. In addition to the children, Mr. Barrus leaves his wife, 13 grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Anna Ward of Long Beach, Calif.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
