GEORGE THOMAS Of Webster Succumbs

George Thomas, a well known farmer and stockman of Webster township died at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning. His health failed him some four or five years ago and since that time he has been inactive. He had been a resident of Webster township for 45 years and was a man well known and highly respected in that part of the county.

He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Thomas, born in Iowa July 24, 1861. He leaves, his wife, the former Ella Hampton; four sons, Floyd at home, Vern of Orient, Harry of Macksburg and Dale of Palo Alto, California, and a daughter, Mrs. Howard Hammons of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Friday) at 1 o'clock from Wesley Chapel in charge of Rev. Bernard Weetman. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

Mortuary – George Thomas

Funeral services for George Thomas were held from the Wesley Chapel church at 1:00 o’clock on December 10. The Rev. B. R. Weetman was in charge of the service. Music was furnished by Ed Patte, Clem Silverthorne, Mrs. Clem Silverthorne and Luella Whitworth, with Lee Kivitt at the piano. Pallbearers were L. D. Weeks, James Harpole, Lewis Givan, Jud Walker, Ray Schultz, and Carl Haymond.

George C. Thomas, son of Lewis and Emily Thomas, was born July 24, 1861 in Lee county, near Pilot Grove, and passed away at his home December 8, 1937 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 16 days.

He grew to manhood in Lee county, where he was united in marriage to Ella Hampton, March 6, 1889. To this union was born five children, Harry of Macksburg, Floyd of Winterset, Vern of Creston, Mamie of Winterset, and Dale of Palo Alto, Calif.

In January. 1892 became to Madison county, with his wife and son, Harry, settling on what is known as the Foreman place, where he lived for five years, then moved to his present home, where he spent the past 40 years.

He had a birthright membership in the Friends church, Pilot Grove, Iowa, later transferring his membership to the Wesley Chapel Methodist church, after being converted in 1900.

He will be greatly missed by his many neighbors and friends. A kind and loving husband, father and brother, he will be greatly mourned by his devoted wife, and five children, two brothers, Charlie of Macksburg, and John of Winterset, and one sister, Leona Cramer of Kansas City, Mo., 21 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two brothers and four sisters having preceded him in death. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
