Verne Emerson, Urbandale

Verne Henry Emerson, 82, of Urbandale died from complications of renal failure Dec. 19, 2000, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 22 at the Lorimor United Methodist Church with Pastor Neil Platon officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery with military rites performed by American Legion Post 184 and V.F.W. Post 8142 both of Winterset.

Verne Emerson was born Aug. 11, 1918 to Albert Roscoe and Sadie Mae (Nelson) Emerson of Afton. An Army veteran of World War II, he married Betty Orma Howard in January of 1946 in Kansas City, Mo. A retired farmer and truck driver, Verne was a member of the Lorimor Lions Club. A resident of Lorimor for most of his fife, he moved to Urbandale in 1996.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four sisters.

He is survived by three daughters, Verna Kay Housman (husband Ronald) of Ames, Carolyn Mikkelsen (husband Tim) of Grimes and Marjorie Jones of Everett, Wash.; three brothers, Lloyd Emerson of Las Vegas, Nev., Everett Emerson of Apple Valley, Calif., and Charles Emerson of Clinton, Mo.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
