Helen Josephine Welch, 82, of Earlham died of an aneurysm June 25, 2002, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 29, at the United Methodist Church in Earlham with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. A private inurnment of the cremains was held at Earlham Cemetery.

Jo Welch was born Sept. 22, 1919, to Wick and Martha Monroe of Wick. She grew up in Martensdale, graduating from Martensdale High School in 1936. She attended the Four C's Business College in Des Moines, receiving a degree in business education. In 1940, she was united in marriage to Jim Welch. They had resided in Earlham for over 60 years. Jo had worked for Hunter Brothers and was secretary of the Earlham Consolidated School District for several years. She was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Kay Welch of Boone; a son, Jim Welch (wife JoAnn) of Waterloo; a sister, Mary Jane Pray of Indianola; and two grandsons.
