Saturday Rites For Gene Dunn

Gene Dunn of rural St. Charles died Tuesday, March 25, at Wilson Foods packing plant in Des Moines. The owner of a trucking firm in St. Charles, Mr. Dunn was making a delivery at the packing plant at the time of his death. He was 60.

Born on March 4, 1920, in Winterset, he was the son of Leo A. and Ruth Keatch Dunn. He was united in marriage to Virginia DeBord on Feb. 14, 1953, in Grant City, Mo., and his wife survives him.

Mr. Dunn lived in Winterset until 1953 when he moved to St. Charles. He was employed by Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines for 13 years before joining Northern Propane in St. Charles. He started his trucking business in 1970. An army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the St. Charles Saddle Club.

Also surviving are a daughter, Marilyn Young of St. Charles; four grandchildren; his step-mother, Jessie Dunn of Des Moines; and a half-brother Cecil Dunn of Eagle Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the St. Charles Methodist Church with Rev. Rolland Towell officiating. Military graveside services were held at the St. Charles Cemetery.
