Alfred "Bud" J. Dunmire, 78, of Des Moines died of lung cancer Dec. 25, 2002, in his home.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 30, at the Earlham Friends Church with Pastor Linda Burnett officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Bud Dunmire was born Sept. 16, 1924, to Winnie And Mary (Tarrant) Dunmire of rural Earlham. A 1943 graduate of Earlham High School, he entered the United States Army at age 18, serving during World War II. He received the Purple Heart from wounds received during combat duty in France. On May 30, 1948, he married Martha Paul at the Corning home of her parents. Bud attended 4 C's Business College in Des Moines and a technical school in Chicago. Following graduation, he worked for Iowa Sick Room Supply Company as a technician, retiring in 1984 following 34 years of services.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Riveriaestrella; a brother, Ralph Dunmire; and a sister, Julia Carson.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, of Des Moines; two daughters, Carol LeMay and Cheryl Benton, both of Des Moines; a brother, Harry Dunmire of Blue Rapids, Kan.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham.
