Millie Downs Death Reported

Millie A. Downs, 77, who was born October 16, 1900 in Walnut township of Madison county, died Sunday, August 27, 1978 at Ramsey Memorial Home in Des Moines, where she was a resident. Her parents were James and Josie Ann James Ackelson.

Mrs. Downs had lived in Des Moines about two and a half years, formerly of Winterset. She was married in October 1919, to Elmer Miller who preceded her in death in May 1939. In August 1955, she became the wife of David Downs in Winterset. He died in September 1957.

Mrs. Downs was a housewife. She held membership in the V.F.W. and World War I Barracks Auxiliaries.

Survivors include two sons, Willard Miller of Des Moines and Donald Miller of Indianola; one daughter, Vivian Hern of Gilbertville; one step-daughter, Bonnie Whitson of Branson, Mo.; ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and two brothers, Emory Ackelson of Ankeny and Ilot Ackelson of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services for Millie Downs were conducted Tuesday, August 29, at 1:30 p.m. from Collins Funeral Home with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. Rev. David Livingston officiated.
