1967BESSIE DOTY OF MACKSBURG DIES
Prominent Woman of Community Died April 6 at Age of 83 Years
Funeral services were held April 9 from the Macksburg Methodist church for Mrs. Bessie Doty, whose death had occurred April 6 at Memorial hospital in Winterset. The services were conducted by the Rev. W. W. Richardson of Macksburg. Burial was made in Moon cemetery.
Mrs. Doty was 83 years of age at her death. She was the former Bessie Rae Carl, daughter of Henry and Spohrina Carl and was born at Commerce Aug. 5, 1883. As an infant, she came with her parents to DeSoto, where she lived nine years. The family then moved to Adel, where her early life was spent.
She was married Feb. 19, 1907, to Alvin Stever. His death occurred June 16, 1909, just 11 days before their only child, Donald A. Stever was born. Later that year she moved to Macksburg, where she was married July 5, 1911 to Smith T. Rowe.
Following Mr. Rowe's death in 1942, she moved to Des Moines, where she lived until 1946, when she was married to Frank C. Doty. They lived on a farm near Macksburg until 1951, when they moved into Macksburg. Mr. Doty's death occurred in 1953.
Mrs. Doty was a member of the Methodist church since childhood, and was active in the Women's Society of Christian Service, in which she was awarded a lifetime membership pin. She was active also in the Wayside Garden club and Woman's Relief corps.
She is survived by her son, Donald A. Stever of Dexter; six step-children, Galen Rowe of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Blanche Pinckney of Jefferson City, Mo., Earl G. Rowe of Chicago, Mrs. R. H. Jorgensen of Ankeny, Mrs. Kenneth Hall of Iowa City, and Mrs. Irene Spurlock of San Antonio, Tex.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 35 great great grandchildren; and nine great great great grandchildren.
