Russell Witt, 72, of Lorimor died Jan. 5, 1995 at Des Moines General Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Macksburg with the Rev. Ed Van Holland officiating. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery at Macksburg with military rites by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post #1797. There is open visitation after 4 p.m. Saturday and a family night 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Stroud-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home in Afton.

Mr. Witt was born May 22, 1922 in Madison County to Arch and Opal (Chenoweth) Witt. He graduated from Macksburg High School. He married Leila A. Wheeler Nov. 7, 1942 in Albany, Mo. He owned and operated a service station in Macksburg for many years before farming in Union County. He also worked at Fansteel Wellman Dynamics before retiring.

He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from May 1942 to October 1945. He was a member of the VFW Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797 and American Legion Post #70 in Creston.

Survivors include a daughter, LeAnn (husband Greg) Tucker of Macksburg; three sons, Gary of Tulsa, Okla., Larry (wife Kay) of Thayer and Arlen (wife Barb) Witt of Macksburg; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife on Jan. 23, 1980

Russell Witt, 72, of Lorimor, died Jan. 5, 1995 at the Des Moines General Hospital. Funeral services were Jan. 9 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ed Van Holland officiated with burial at the Moon Cemetery in Macksburg.

He was born on May 22, 1922 in Madison County to Arch and Opal (Chenoweth) Witt. He married Leila A. Wheeler in Albany, Mo. on Nov. 7, 1942. He was a lifetime resident of Madison and Union Counties. He had owned and operated a service station in Macksburg for many years before farming in Union County. He was a member of the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797; VFW; and Creston American Legion Post 70. He was a veteran, having servied in the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Gary Witt of Tulsa, Okla., Larry Witt and wife Kay of Thayer, and Arlen Witt and wife Barb of Macksburg; one daughter, LeAnn Tucker and husband Greg of Macksburg; and nine grandchildren.
