Mervyn D. McLennan was born October 25, 1898 in Milo, Iowa. He graduated from Earlham Academy in 1916 and later attended Simpson College. On September 20, 1922, he was married to Irene Walker of Earlham and had one daughter, Ruth.

Mervyn worked at the McLennan Hardware in Earlham and later became its owner. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of the Earlham Masonic Lodge. He was a member and chief of the Earlham Fire Department and also served as mayor of Earlham during the 1940’s.

He is survived by his daughter Ruth and son-in-law Marvin Busch, of Okoboji; grandson David, of Des Moines; granddaughter Gayle and husband, Don Anderson and great granddaughter, Kelly, of Kissimmee, Florida, and one niece, Marjorie Wright, of Des Moines.

Reverend Helen Farr officiated at the funeral service on May 9, 1986 at the United Methodist Church, Earlham, Iowa. Organ music was provided by Gretchen Brittain. Pallbearers were Dale Mills, Bob Branam, Jim Welch, Wayne Swallow, Glen Stegall and Paul Mark. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
