Herschel Dale Hester Sr., Winterset

Herschel Dale Hester, 87, of Winterset died of heart failure Dec. 26, 2000, at West Bridge Care in Winterset. Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 29, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Earlham Cemetery.

Herschel was a lifelong resident of Earlham and a farmer. He married his wife, Jessie (Harris) Hester on Sept. 26, 1935, in Omaha, Neb. He also was employed in the Des Moines Public Schools as a fireman operation engineer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, two sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Slaybaugh of Granger and Margaret Thomas of Winterset; a daughter-in-law, Ellen Hester of Des Moines; two brothers, Chalmers Hester of California and Howard Hester of Knoxville; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
