John Devine of Truro Dies

John O. Devine, a resident of the Truro vicinity for 58 years, died Monday, Dec. 18, at Madison Manor South in Winterset. He was 81 years of age.

Mr. Devine was born in Madison county Nov. 8, 1891. Much of his early life was spent in Union and Clarke counties. He was a son of William and Elizabeth Foreman Devine.

His occupation during his active years was farming. He was married Sept. 5, 1910, to Clara Burgess. Her death occurred in 1968.

He was a member of the Masonic lodge, and the A.F. and A.M. of Truro.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Leo Dick of Truro, Mrs. Rodney Jenkins of San Fernando Valley, Calif., and Mrs. John Reed of Anaheim, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and three brothers, Aubrey Devine of Escondido, Calif., Floyd Devine of Des Moines and Rev. O. B. Devine of LaPuente, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Ed, and by three sisters, Della, Ila and Diza.

Funeral services were held Thursday from the Kale Funeral home in Truro, conducted by the Rev. Richard Hempenius of Truro. Burial was made in the Union cemetery in Clarke county.

Thurs. Services for J. Devine

Funeral services for John Oliver Devine will be held Thursday, December 21 from the Kale Funeral Home in Truro. The 2 p.m. services will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Hempenius with interment in the Union Cemetery. He died Monday December 18 at Madison Manor South.

John Oliver Devine was born November 8, 1891 in Madison County, son of William and Elizabeth Foreman Devine. He attended schools in Clarke and Union Counties and was a farmer. He lived in the Truro Vicinity for 58 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge number 483 and the A.F. and A.M. at Truro. He was united in marriage to Clara Burgess at Winterset, September 5, 1910. Three children were born to this union.

Surviving relatives include daughters, Lorraine Dick and husband, Leo of Truro; Joan Jenkins and husband Rodney of San Fernando Valley, California; Mildred Reed and husband, John of Anaheim, California; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Aubrey Devine of Escondido, California, Floyd Devine of Des Moines, Rev. O. B. Devine of La Puente, California.

He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Clara in 1968, three sisters, Della, Ila, and Diza; two brothers, Glenn and Ed.
