Former Resident Dies At Creston

Fred W. Cunningham, 90, died at the Creston Manor nursing home Tuesday, August 29, 1978. He had been ill for several months. His home was at 811 West Jefferson Street in Creston.

Mr. Cunningham had lived in Creston since returning from farming in Madison County in 1953.

The funeral was held at one p.m. Friday Sept 1st. from the First Christian Church in Creston, Rev. Lester Pearson, the pastor officiated. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by the V.F.W.

Fred Wilbur Cunningham was born at Clinton, Ill. April 22, 1888. He was the son of Joseph C. and Mary Ellen Conklin Cunningham.

His family moved to Grand Junction, Iowa in 1890 and to Winterset in 1920. He was a farmer in Madison County after serving in the U.S. Army in World War I.

He was married to Ola Doughert of Winterset at Adel on Dec. 5. 1945. She survives him. He preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Creston Veterans of Foreign Wars post, the Veterans of World War I and the American Legion.
