Eldred Roper Fry youngest son of E. S. and Mary M. Fry was born in Dallas County February 9th, 1872. His childhood was spent in Bear Creek neighborhood, where he played with the neighbor children, in the fields, on the hillside and by the brook, developing as a normal, active boy. It was here he began his school days and later attended the old Friends Academy in Earlham.

With the exception of four or five years which were spent in Louisiana his life has been lived in Dallas and Madison counties among his neighbors and friends. For nearly 27 years his home has been just west of Earlham. Living and doing the work of a farmer. Here he made a home for his wife, Fern Culver, with whom he was united in marriage January 1st, 1921. To her he was a good and provident husband.

Ed, as his neighbors and friends familiarly called him, was a man like the rest of us, having his likes and dislikes, being possessed of faults and good qualities, laying to claim to perfection, but always a good neighbor and friend. He had his part, and took his place, in the affairs of the community.

Little prepared were his relatives, friends and neighbors to hear the announcement, “Ed is gone.” After a short illness he passed into “sleep” March 25, 1931.
