Had Been Madison County Resident More Than Half Century
Mrs. Leona E. Datwyler, a resident of Madison county for more than half a century, died Saturday morning, Dec. 31, at her home in Winterset. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Datwyler was a native of Illinois, where she was born near Buckley, the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Strawn Vannatta. She was married Dec. 15, 1903 to John R. Datwyler. They farmed in Illinois until March 1, 1908 when they moved to a farm near Peru.
In 1944, they moved to a farm north of Winterset, where Mr. Datwyler died in 1944. Mrs. Datwyler had lived in Winterset since 1945.
She was a member of the Winterset Methodist church, transferring here from Peru in 1953.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ray Wolverton of Adair, Laura Datwyler at home, Mrs. Ralph Struve of Blairsburg and Mrs. Robert Spencer of Peru; two sons, Carl and Wilson Datwyler of Peru; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
