September 30, 1998Gertrude H. Dalen, 90, of Earlham died Sept. 17, 1998, at the Earlham Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with the Rev. Dr. Ray Martin officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.
Gertrude Dalen was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Webster Township (Madison County) to George B. and Minnie Frederick. She attended school in Winterset and, for a time, worked as a telephone operator in Dexter. She married Melvin Dalen on Oct. 1, 1925. they resided in Redfield until 1942, when they moved to Earlham. During World War II Gertrude was active with the Red Cross. She also was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Earlham, the Redfield Order of the Eastern Star and Madison County Care Board.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Page of Everett, Wash.; a niece, Martha Van Toll of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
