March 1973Clark Criss Dies at 83
Clark H. Criss, age 73, a native of Winterset, died unexpectedly at his home in Atchison, Kansas Saturday, March 17th. Death was apparently due to a heart attack.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, March 19th in Atchison at the Stanton Chapel by Rev. Walter Brant, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Internment was in Sunset Memory Gardens there.
Mr. Criss was born in Winterset on August 31, 1899. He was a son of Joseph and Martha Cox Criss. He attended the Winterset schools and lived here until moving to Oskaloosa, Kansas in 1935. In 1940 he moved to Atchison where he operated a service station until his retirement.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rosa Boatwright, whom he married January 7, 1966; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Norma) Kuhn of Atchison and Mrs. Roger (Ruth) Moerman of Springboro, Ohio; two sons, Lloyd Criss of Keota, Iowa and Myles Criss of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He leaves three stepdaughters, Mrs. William Wray Trekell of Dodge City, Kansas, Mrs. Shirley Westwood of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Miss Sharon Boatwright of Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Criss is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, Willard Criss of Winterset and Leonard Criss of Hawthorne, Nevada and Mrs. Maud Bullin of Parkville, Missouri and Mrs. Isabelle McBride of Oakland, California and 17 grandchildren.
The relatives from this area who drove down for the final rites were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Criss of Lorimor and Willard Criss of Winterset.
