Marjorie Inez Creger, Truro

Marjorie Inez Creger, 82, died Fri. July 12, at the Altoona Manor Nursing Home, Altoona, where she was a resident. Funeral services were July 16 at Kale Funeral Home, Truro, with the Rev. Jerry Crenshaw of Bondurant officiating.

A lifelong Truro resident, she was born April 4, 1909 to Isaac Earl and Florence Rachael (Franks) Holmes. She married Forrest "Buck" Creger January 8, 1927 in Atlantic. She was a retired bookkeeper for the Interstate 35 Telephone Company and also worked as a cook at Truro High School for 20 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Truro, and the Thursday Girls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, and two sisters.

Surviving are a daughter, Rosemary Strawn and husband, Dale, of Altoona; two sisters, Pat Dutton of Truro and Dorothy Meader of Peru; a brother, Harold Holmes of Johnston; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial was at Young Cemetery, Madison County. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.

Rites held for former Truro resident Marjorie Creger

Services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Truro on Tuesday for Marjorie Inez Creger, former Truro resident, who died July 12, 1991, at Altoona Manor in Altoona. She was 82.

The Rev. Jerry Crenshaw of Bondurant officiated at the 11 a.m. service. Burial was in Youngs Cemetery in Madison County.

Mrs. Creger, the daughter of Isaac Earl and Florence Rachael Franks Holmes was born April 4, 1909, at Truro. She attended Truro schools.

She married Forrest “Buck” Creger on Jan. 8, 1927, at Atlantic. The couple were the parents of two children. Mrs. Creger was a bookkeeper for Interstate 35 Telephone Co. and a school hot lunch cook for 20 years.

A member of the United Church of Christ in Truro, Mrs. Creger was also a member of the Thursday Girls.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1986; son, Richard and two sisters, Nola and Ruth.

Mrs. Creger is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Strawn and her husband Dale, of Altoona; two grandchildren, Richard Strawn of Ankeny and Tim Strawn and his wife Deborah, of Roanoke, Va.; four great-children; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Pat Dutton of Truro and Dorothy Meader of Peru and a brother Harold Holmes of Johnston.

TRURO, IA. – Marjorie I. Creger, 82, of Truro died of a heart ailment Friday at the Altoona Manor nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kale Funeral Home here, with burial at Young Cemetery.

A lifelong Truro resident, Mrs. Creger was a retired bookkeeper for the I-35 Telephone Co. here and also had worked as a cook at Truro High School. She was a member of the United Church of Christ here.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Strawn of Altoona; two sister, Pat Dutton of Truro and Dorothy Meader of Peru, Ia.; a brother, Harold Holmes of Johnston; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
