James Clinton Crawford, 82, of Truro, died August 27, 1997 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were August 30 at the Kale Funeral Home in Truro with the Rev. John Long of Indianola officiating. Burial followed at the St. Charles Cemetery.
He was born at the family home in Truro, July 27, 1915, to Clinton and Ada Belle (McGinnis) Crawford. He was educated at Broadhorn School and graduated from Truro High School. On December 6, 1945, he married Wanda Marie Crawford in Albert Lea, Minn. He lived in State Center from 1959 to 1975, where he was the owner and operator of an appliance store, before moving to Truro in 1975. He was a member of the Lion's Club in St. Charles, the VFW in Winterset, American Legion, and the Society to Preserve Blue Grass Music Association. He was a veteran of World War II where he was in the U.S. Army 5th Armored Tank Division during the battles in the European Theater. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church in State Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers; son sister; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Rick Crawford and wife Donita of State Center, Regg Crawford and wife Brenda of Minneapolis, Minn., Russ Crawford and wife Karla of Des Moines; one daughter, Randy Love and husband Bob of Nashville, Ill.; one brother, Keith Crawford of Truro; five grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.
