Oscar Cox, Macksburg

Oscar Cox, son of Charles and Nora Etter Cox, was born March 20, 1898 in Union township, Madison County. Most of his life, he was a resident of Madison County.

In early life he became a member of the United Presbyterian church.

Until he became disabled, Mr. Cox was a farmer all his life.

On March 1, 1922 he was united in marriage to Hazel Anna Barr in Winterset. To them was born one son, Phillip Eugene.

On October 19, 1957 Hazel A. Cox died. On November 4, 1960 he married Hazel Fern Lawless. Since June 1983 he had been a patient at the Care Center North in Winterset. Oscar died July 6, 1985, in the Winterset Hospital of a heart ailment.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, his first wife Hazel Anna, and his son Phillip.

He is survived by his wife, Fern, a grandson Craig and wife Sharon, two great grandchildren, his daughter-in-law Esther Cox of Winterset, stepsons, John Lawless and family of Albany, Georgia, and Donald Lawless and family of Washington, Iowa, and one stepdaughter, Linda, Mrs. Andrew Murman and family of Palmer.
