Edith Cooper, Earlham

Edith Margaret Cooper, 97, of Winterset and formerly of Earlham, died Dec. 22, 2005, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Linda Burnett officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Edith Cooper was born Oct. 18, 1908, in rural Dallas County to Bertram and Alta (Hodson) Fenn. She graduated from Linden High School in 1926 and attended AIB. On Dec. 24, 1928, she married Wallace Cooper in Winterset. Edith worked with her husband at their grocery store in Earlham and then in the 1950s opened up her own store, the Cooper Variety Store, which she operated until the mid 1970s. She was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard; and three brothers, Carroll, Elbert "Bus" and Ronald Fenn.

She is survived by a sister, Grace Giles of Clive, and six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
