WILLIAM WILKINSON, Des Moines

William L. Wilkinson, 80, of Des Moines died Dec. 31, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Burial was at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Bill Wilkinson was born April 5, 1923, in Winterset to Lloyd and Fern (Lawrence) Wilkinson. He was a 1942 graduate of Winterset High School. A resident of Des Moines for most of his life, he retired as a storekeeper for the Iowa DOT. He also worked for the Iowa Health Department for 22 years. Bill served with the Army Engineers in Europe during World War II. He was a life member of Winterset Post 8142, Winterset Alumni Association and Madison County Historical Society and a member of he Winterset Community Educational Foundation, Winterset Booster Club, Winterset Quarterback Club, Arizona Memorial Associaton, USS Missouri Memorial Association, National Model Railroad Association and the Central Iowa Garden Railroad Society.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Wilkinson of Des Moines; a son, Larry Edwards of Winchester, Calif.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandaughters.
