John "Jack" Philip Silverthorn, 44, of Earlham, died of cancer Nov. 6, 1996 at his residence. Funeral services were Nov. 9 at the First Presbyterian Church in Earlham. The Rev. Ray Martin officiated and burial was at the Earlham Cemetery.

He was born in Winterset on Feb. 26, 1952 to Philip Harold and Roberta Jean (Orwan) Silverthorn. He married Nancy Lea Verlinden on July 31, 1976 in Sioux City. He had been employed as a machine operator at Eagle Iron Works in Des Moines. He was a lifetime resident of Earlham.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving relatives include his mother, Jean Silverthorn of Earlham; his wife; one son, Clete Philip Silverthorn of Earlham; one daughter, Amanda Lea Silverthorn of Earlham; two brothers, Mark Harold Silverthorn of Gypsum, Colo., and Larry Gene Silverthorn of Winterset; and one sister, Linda Kay Nicholson of Stuart.

Memorial contibutions may be directed to the Middle River Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church.
