Boyd Lewis McLaughlin, 67, of Dexter, died of a heart attack in Des Moines on Jan. 10, 1996. Services were held Jan. 13 at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, with burial in Dexter Cemetery.

Mr. McLaughlin was born on Sept. 3, 1928 to Lemuel McLaughlin and Stella Parson McLaughlin in Kanopolis, Kan. After attending schools in Russell, Kan., he worked for his father in the oil fields of Kansas as a well driller. On Sept. 3, 1949, he married Bernajean Giese in Eureka, Kan. He entered the United States Army on April 6, 1951 and was a communications and teletype operator during the Korean War.

He later came to the Dexter and Earlham areas where he worked for the Kirby Well Drilling Company of Redfield. He drilled gas wells for the Northern Gas Co. until his retirement in 1991. He was also active in the American Legion and was serving as the Commander of Post 419 in Dexter.

Mr. McLaughlin is survived by his sons Michael of Earlham, Dennis of Des Moines and Rodger of Redfield. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Wanda.
