MRS. BURNESS COLLINS DIED HERE SATURDAY

Death Occurs at Memorial Hospital After Brief Illness

Mrs. Burness Collins of Winterset, a resident of Madison county since 1918, died Saturday, April 29, at Memorial hospital in Winterset after a brief illness. She was 64 years of age.

Mrs. Collins was a native of Missouri, where she was born at Kirksville. She was the former Lena E. Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Long.

She was married to Burness Collins in 1914, and about two years later they moved to Des Moines, remained there about two years before coming to Madison county. They farmed in Lee township until 1950 when they moved to Winterset.

Mrs. Collins was a member of the United Brethren church and was affiliated with the Rebekah lodge.

Mrs. Collins is survived by her husband; three sons, Tim Collins of Winterset, Bernard (Sam) Collins of Bondurant, and Richard (Jake) Collins of Van Meter; five daughters, Mrs. Margaret Amundson of San Bernadino, Calif., Mrs. Winifred Shaffer of Waukee, Mrs. Evelyn Parker of Garden Grove, Calif., Mrs. Frances (Sally) Bush of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Bonnie Gordon of Irvington, Calif. She also leaves 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Julian Long of Kansas City, Mo., and Porter Long of Denver, Colo. and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Hartupee of Forest Park, Ga.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Fisher Funeral home at Van Meter in charge of the Rev. Wilbur Carter. Burial was to be made in the Booneville cemetery.
