Howard W. Wood, 91, of Lenox died of heart failure May 18, 2000, at his residence.

Graveside services of the cremains were held Saturday, May 20, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines.

Howard Wood was born July 1, 1908, to Orren Lumual and Augusta Frances (Arthur) Wood of Prescott. He was a graduate of Prescott High School and lived in the Prescott area until 1932, when he moved to Indianola. He married Donna Belle Green on Jan. 3, 1940. They resided in Indianola until 1947, when they moved to West Des Moines. Howard was employed at Davidson Furniture Store in Des Moines for 15 years. He later worked for Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, retiring in 1970, but returned to work as a security guard at Northwestern Bell in 1979. In 1981, he and his wife moved to Indianola. His wife Donna died in 1982. He later married Mildred Hoskinson of Winterset in 1983. He was a member of the Des Moines and Indianola chapters of the Men's Garden Club of America. He also organized and served as president of the Men's Garden Club of Madison County.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and his second wife.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Robina Reeves of Eureka Springs, Mo; and two stepsons, Andrew Hoskinson of the State of Washington and Robert Hoskinson of Winterset.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.
