John W. Clement

John W. Clement was born in Shelby county, Ohio, Nov. 28, 1842 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rosa Shearer, Oct. 18, 1917.

He served four years in the Civil War in the 20th Iowa infantry and the next year after the war came to Clinton county, Iowa, soon after going to Humboldt, Nebr., where he was married to Lydia M. Kerns, who died June 11, 1911. To this union were born ten children, four having died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his loss, six daughters, their names are: Mrs. Rosa Shearer, Mrs. Viola Harrison, Mrs. Josie Huston, Mrs. Tressie Huston of Malta, Mont.; Mrs. Fred Southwick of Malta, Mont. and Miss Ina Clement, all being present except Mrs. Southwick. He also leaves three brothers, one sister, five half brothers and five half sisters, only one them being present, Wm. Clement of Table Rock, Nebr.

He was a member of John Craven Post of Macksburg G.A.R. and was always a faithful member, a kind and indulgent father, a kind friend and neighbor.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Cross and burial made beside the wife in the Moon cemetery.
