Winterset Madisonian - March 14, 1929

Silas McClintic (McClintock), a pioneer monumental dealer of Winterset, died Thursday, March 7th, at his home on North First street, at the age of 80 years, with pneumonia. He had been ill for only a short time, and his death came as a shock to Winterset friends.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo McClintic, and was born in Keokuk county, May 20, 1848. When but a small boy, the family moved to Warren county, where he resided until he was 26 years of age. It was at this place that he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Cunlack (Gunlock), and they moved to Winterset to make their home. Immediately upon his arrival here he associated in business with his father, who was the pioneer monumental manufacturer, and continued at that work until his retirement several years ago. Their shop was on North First street where the Farmers Elevator now stands.

The McClintics had five children: Gilbert Alvord, deceased; Mrs. C. C. Day, of Paso Robles, California; Mildred, of Denver; Dale Edgar, of Spencer, and Rex, of Coon Rapids. Besides Mrs. McClintic and four children, Mr. McClintic leaves a brother and sister in Oregon; one sister in California; one sister in Oklahoma, and one brother in Warren county, and ten grandchildren.

Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the First Baptist church here, conducted the funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Saturday, March 9th, at 2:30 o'clock, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
