Will Cochran, assistant cashier of the First National bank in Winterset, died early Sunday morning, March 10th, at his home on West South street. Mr. Cochran was critically ill a year ago, and since that time his health has been poor, but he continued at his work until last Tuesday night. Friends and relatives realized that Mr. Cochran's condition had been growing worse, but he refused to give up his work until the last. He was 59 years of age.

Mr. Cochran was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cochran, pioneer settlers of Grand River township, and he was born in this county, November 15, 1869. He resided on the farm until about thirty years ago, when we went to Lorimor, where he was employed and had an interest in the bank, now known as the First National. Prior to his entering the banking business, Mr. Cochran took a commercial course at Highland Park college in Des Moines.

In 1905 he was married to Miss Fay Crumbaker, and they resided in Lorimor until in 1922, when they came to Winterset, where they have since resided. For a time Mr. Cochran was in the Madison County State Bank, but more recently he has been with The First National Bank.

The deceased is survived by his wife, and their four children, Mrs. Mercedes Rowe, Miss Marjorie, Wesley and Joan. He leaves one grandchild and five brothers and one sister: John, of Winterset, Fields, Fred, Lee and Walter, and Mrs. Ira Tucker of Grand River township. Mr. Cochran's mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Cochran, died at her home near Macksburg, February 9, 1929.

The Rev. A. P. Keast conducted funeral services at the Cochran home, Tuesday morning, March 12th at 10 o'clock, and the funeral party went to Martensdale, taking the train from there to Lorimor. Short services were held at the Methodist church there in the afternoon, and the Masons had charge of the services at the Lorimor cemetery.

Will Cochran

Will Cochran was born near Macksburg, Iowa, November 15, 1869, and departed from this life on March 10, in 1929, at his home in Winterset. He was the second son of Wesley and Elizabeth Cochran, pioneer settlers of this county, both of whom preceded him in death - the father in March, 1912, and the mother, February 10, 1929. One sister, Mrs. Kate Steele, and a brother, Frank, also preceded him.

He grew to early manhood on the farm in this county, taught school for several years, later attending Highland Park college, Des Moines, from which he graduated. He then entered the banking business in Lorimor, where he remained for 23 years, until 1922, when he moved to Winterset, and continued in the banking business.

He was united in marriage October 11, 1905, with Fay Crumbaker. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Mercedes Rowe, Marjorie, Wes, and Joan, all of whom, together with their mother, survive to mourn his passing. He leaves besides his family, five brothers, and one sister; John, of Winterset; Walter, Lee, Fred and Fields, and Mrs. Mattie Tucker, all of Grand River township, Madison county; also an aunt, Mrs. Martha Kirk, of Winterset.

The funeral was held at home Tuesday, March 13, and the burial was in the Lorimor cemetery. Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the services.

Will Cochran was universally beloved by all who knew him. Having a sunny disposition, he was kindly, courteous, magnanimous, a good neighbor, and a loving father and husband. He was stricken nearly a year ago with a fatal malady.
