Ann M., daughter of John and Mildred Mendenhall, was born April 14, 1843, in Morgan county, Indiana, where she received her education and grew to womanhood.

In 1869 she came to Madison county, and in 1870 she became the wife of William H. Wroe. Two children, a daughter and a son, came into this home, and to the love and care of one of earth's choicest mothers. The father and husband was called from this home on May 30, 1880, leaving the full care and support of the home and children to the heart and shoulders of the wife and mother. But to this task and all tasks entrusted to her, Aunt Ann proved faithful and capable.

In 1889 she was married to David Mills and for seventeen years she was happy in his love and companionship.

On July 4, 1906, he was called by death, leaving her twenty-one years more here in our midst.

The Friends church was the choice of Aunt Ann and Earlham Friends have received the greater share of the blessing of her life. She has given her best to it and all its interests.

For almost three months Aunt Ann had been confined to her home where the daughter, Verda, and the son-in-law, Allen, who has been like an own son, and the faithful intimate friend, Aunt Kate Johnson, have given her constant tender care and her multitude of friends anxiously listened for the comforting word that Aunt Ann was to be spared longer to bless our lives. But on the evening of January 30th, after her loved ones had prepared her for the night's rest she asked for the reading of God's word. With Verda and Allen joining her in the evening worship, she prayed for a good night's rest and an early summons to the heavenly home, she fell asleep and after a night of unusually good rest and sleep, she received the summons for which she had earnestly petitioned.

Aunt Ann, one of a large family, leaves one step-sister, the daughter, Verda Kenworthy, of Earlham; a son, John M. Wroe of Prescott, Washington; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 20 step great grandchildren and other relatives and many who claimed her as a dear friend.

Funeral services were held at the Friends church in Earlham, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Mrs. Bernice Riddle, of Bear Creek, and assisted by the local pastor, Rev. S. Hester. Mrs. A. J. Hadley read the obituary which was written by her. Interment was made at the North Branch cemetery.
