A son of Joshua and Cynthia Thornburg Clark, he was born in this county on April 20, 1877. He was a grandson of Caleb and Ruth Clark, first white settlers of Madison county and for whom the Clark tower in the Winterset City Park was erected.

He was married to Mary Eggleston at Winterset on Oct. 12, 1904.

Mr. Clark spent his active years as a brick and stone mason, a trade in which several members of his family participated, helping to erect many of the fine old structures of this area.
