William T. Guiher, well known Winterset attorney, died Saturday, October 16th, 1954 at the Madison county Memorial hospital at the age of 89 years. He had been in poor health for the past four years, and had been a patient at the hospital for over two years.

Mr. Guiher, a native of Pennsylvania, was born March 5th, 1865, at Waynesburg, a son of Dr. James and Rebecca Throckmorton Guiher. He attended the public schools in that town, and also Waynesburg college, but came to Iowa and to Winterset in 1889, when he was 24 years of age. He worked first as an abstractor in the office of the late E. E. McCall, then went to Le Mars, Iowa in 1892. There he worked in an abstract office, and also read law in the office of an attorney, and was admitted to the Iowa Bar.

He returned to this community, in 1898, and engaged in the practice of law with his brother, the late John A. Guiher, who died in 1929. He continued in law practice until his health failed several years ago.

Mr. Guiher was a member of the Masonic lodge, and had joined the Methodist church in Waynesburg.

A sister Miss Nancy A. Guiher of Library, Pennsylvania, who is 86 years of age, is his nearest surviving relative; his three brothers, Dr. H. B. Guiher of Smithfield, Pa., Frank T. Guiher of Waynesburg, and John A. Guiher of Winterset, preceded him in death. He leaves six nieces and nephews: James M. Guiher, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, Frank T. Guiher Jr. of Library, Pa., Mary Guiher Hutchinson of Charleston, West Virginia, Rebecca Guiher Warren of Concord, New Hampshire, Ruth Guiher of Hot Springs, South Dakota, and Katherine Guiher Crayne of Jefferson, Pa.

Funeral services were conducted at the Anderson Home for Funerals, Wednesday afternoon, October 20th, by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Methodist church, and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

The members of the local bar association served as honorary pallbearers.
