Death of Mrs. John B. Travis

Mrs. John B. Travis, a pioneer settler of the Peru neighborhood, died early Sunday morning, February 24th at her home, southwest of Peru. Mrs. Travis had been in poor health for some time and her condition gradually grew worse.

The deceased was a daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. John Creger, who made their home in Peru for many years. Since her marriage to Mr. Travis, she had continued to reside in that community. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Derwin and Fred, and two daughters, Mrs. John Priest and Miss Mabel Travis.

Funeral services were held at the home, Tuesday afternoon, February 26th, at one o’clock, and burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

MRS. JOHN TRAVIS

Martha Alice Creger, daughter of John H. and Martha Creger, was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, April 8, 1853, and departed this life Feruary 24, 1929, aged 75 years, 10 month and 21 days. She came to Madison county when three years of age, where she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to J. B. Travis, in October 1874.

To this union five children were born: I.H., D.M., J.F., Mrs. Maggie Priest and Mabel, all living at Peru, except I.H., who preceded her in death in December 1923.

She united with the Christian church at the age of 14. After her marriage she transferred her membership with her husband, to the M. E. church.

She lived a faithful Christian and was willing and ready to go. A few hours before her death she told her loved ones she was going home. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, five children, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers and a host of relatives and friends.

(Note: Burial was in the Peru Cemetery)
